What guys can learn from The Bachelorette

Yes, I'm going to admit it... I am a SERIOUS fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette. I know, it's a silly show where people drink too much, fall in love WAY too fast and fight over a glance that apparently meant death. But, to someone who still believes in fairytales I find the show very appealing. So instead of judging a bunch of people trying to find love (or fame) I want to talk about it.

What GUYS can learn from The Bachelorette

1. Girls like to be romanced! Weather it really happened or it was a producer edit is not the point, this season showed guys fighting for Emily's attention and heart. If I have heard one complaint from all my girl friends it's that guys are FAILING when it comes to pursuing a woman. One of my favorite examples was One "F" Jef's love letter to Emily. He simply put on paper all he was feeling for Emily, take the hint guys we like to be reassured! Or how about when Sean (Close your mouth ladies, drooling is not cute!) ran after Emily's car because he wanted to kiss her one last time. OR when Arie stopped by Emily's house "out of the blue" just because he missed her. OR (and finally) when Ryan bought Emily a necklace that had sentimental value to her. We don't need gifts we just want to know you think about us when we aren't around. The most basic example was during the Cocktail Parties (aka a time when all the guys had the opportunity to talk to Emily) every guy fought for her attention and for just a single moment of time.

2. Be honest about your feelings. Every girl got a little teary eyed when quiet John finally opened up to Emily about how he wants the type of love his grandparents had. Or when Sean told Emily he loved her after finally giving in to being vulnerable. But of course, and most importantly, Jef's constant reassurance that he loved and desired her. He rarely let a moment pass without telling her how special she was to him. Not sure what to say? Just tell us we're pretty, that usually works. :)

3. R-E-S-P-E-C-T! (Please make my day and tell me you just sang that.) When Emily presented the Fantasy Suite invitation Sean and Jef's reactions showed they were class acts! Emily allowed Sean to read the invitation and told him she wanted to be a good role model for her daughter by not accepting the key to the hotel room that would allow them to "stay together" for the first time. Sean, being the amazing guy he is, told her he completely understood and was so sincere and kind about telling her it was okay. Jef though, oh Jef... Our little skinny jean wearing cutie told her FIRST that he thought they should turn it down. He said out of respect for their families and then ending with one of my favorite Jef quotes, "There is a time and a place for everything, and now is the time to bridle these passions." Until marriage, right Jef?

Guys, you think we're so complicated but actually we're incredibly simple (well, mostly). Open our car door, be honest about how you feel (good or bad we'll thank you later) and respect our morals, values and simply us.
